1.剛打上石膏時
1.1.如有溫熱感為正常現象。
1.2.應以室溫自然風乾，至少每隔2小時翻身一次，以減少局部壓迫並使更多的石膏表面暴露在空氣中，促進乾燥。
1.3.石膏上下不可覆蓋毛毯或衣物，以免影響空氣之循環。
1.4.移動石膏時，不可以手指按壓石膏，應以手掌支托，以免石膏變形。
1.5.以枕頭支撐石膏，使肢體高於心臟，以增加靜脈回流，減輕末稍之腫脹。
1.6.定時活動身體其他部位及石膏固定肢體之上下關節，以增加血液循環。
1.7.可在距離石膏18~24吋處，以風扇吹乾石膏。
1.8.石膏完全乾燥約須24~72小時，樹脂石膏則可於當日完全乾燥。
2.石膏已乾
2.1.保持石膏之清潔乾燥。
2.2.洗澡及淋浴時，以塑膠袋保護石膏，防弄濕。
2.3.不可將物品塞入石膏內，若感石膏內皮敷搔癢，可向石膏內注入空氣。
2.4.繼續活動石膏上下關節及作固定部位之肌肉等長收縮運動(肌肉緊縮放鬆動作)。
2.5.石膏固定後須注意行動及上床、下床之安全。

4.石膏拆除後
4.1.可用中性肥皂和溫水小心的清洗，拭乾後以乳液或嬰兒油滋潤皮膚。
4.2.若皮膚乾燥且感到癢時，不可用力搔抓皮膚，以免皮膚受損。
4.3.抬高肢體以減少腫脹。
4.4.採漸進性的關節活動以增加肌肉張力及關節活動力。
